Migration Process

The migration process is divided into analysis, migration and quality assurance phases and in|MOTION Migration Suite is designed to offer considerable support in each of these stages.

Analysis Phase

The results of the analysis phase form the basis for further actions in the migration process. All basic parameters are reviewed, the data structures of the source system analysed and a detailed report created. The aim of this analysis phase is to make informed decisions on whether to opt for an automatic, partially automatic or manual migration, after comparing the costs and workload of each approach.

Migration Phase

The migration phase focuses on successfully importing data through the interfaces of the source system and defining the conversion rules. This is an iterative process that even allows complex structures to be transformed.

The subsequent automatic migration provides a number of services, including:

• Importing content and structures (including partial imports, e.g. from individual departments)
• Automatically transferring existing links between pages, documents and media
• Importing meta data (language, department, compiler…)
• Importing access rights and roles

Content and navigational structures can also be adapted or restructured to comply with pre-defined rules, if required.

The Migration Cockpit takes on the management and supervision of the entire migration process (including logging) and allows individual sub-projects (e.g. relating to specific departments or even individual pages) to be processed.

Quality Assurance Phase

The in|MOTION Migration Suite helps considerably reduce the costs and workload of quality assurance for specific departments within the company. The Migration Cockpit offers support in this phase too. It provides:

• A detailed migration protocol
• Instructions for conducting technical reviews of “problem pages”
• The option of temporarily integrating a link to the old page on the new page
• A “Before/After” control view
